House of Delegates candidate Marc Cadin, of the Franklin Farm area of Fairfax, became the latest voice to call for a special session of the General Assembly to fix the flawed and much criticized "abuser fees".
Mr. Cadin indicated that he has been talking to citizens of the 67th district about the need for a special session for weeks. "I can no longer wait. The Governor needs to convene a special session of the General Assembly to fix the broken abuser fees. Waiting until January of next year is not an acceptable answer." He added, "These fees need to be fixed."
The abuser fees, which apply only to Virginia drivers and can be triggered by both misdemeanor and felony driving infractions, have been the source of significant controversy.
Mr. Cadin, a former teacher, added, "As I used to tell my students, everyone makes mistakes, but what's important is that you recognize them, take responsibility, and take action to correct them. I have been disappointed that my opponent, Mr. Caputo, supported these flawed fees at every opportunity while he was in the General Assembly and he has not publicly called on the Governor to call for a special session to fix them."
"It is the Governor's responsibility to convene a special session and he must take action immediately." Mr. Cadin added, "While my opponent has crowed about how much money he raised, real people are being hit hard with these flawed fees. Public service should be about solving problems and this is an issue in desperate need of a fix."
Marc Cadin is the Republican Candidate in the 67th District which represents western Fairfax and eastern Loudoun Counties.
